It is very important that we all know and understand what social justice is. What social justice means to me is that we fight for what should be given, which can be used to make our world a better place. We here at Social Justice have seen the struggle of fighting for childrens education. We have fought for a whole new system of teaching here in the Little Village Lawndale High School campus. This process was done over the course of principles built by those who know that the values build will transform the community within the bonds of the campus. The powerful movement of how a large community will unite together to make a better world. I can see now that not all was almighty and giving but through a process that was a drastic move to get the attention so that the school be build. Over the four years being here we can see that social justice has changed through the eyes of every individual and also through mine. I have gone to see it as a school that shows not only the power of activism to equality but also to how we live through the values specifically in Social Justice. We had a “sit-in” to fight for the Advanced Placement courses that were being taken away from our curriculum, but also the dismissal of many teachers. Through this we gained the appropriate curriculum to challenge our knowledge but also how we as a school grew together to fight as a unified school.
Many obstacles we have faced during my time at Social Justice is the way we fight for rights as students. We have been through three different principals, constant battle over how CPS feels we need a different type of authority. The fight to keep the essential seven values of Social Justice through the struggle of how and who exactly was going to be our new principal. We also had to fight for the return of many great teachers that were fired due to CPS and the new principal we had had. Which was one of the primary reasons we asked for a new principal. The values and the structure that was Social Justice was being split at the seams because of new rules and the authority done to our school.
We have overcome these struggles by all students working together. We know as part of the Essential Seven to be unified and struggle together for the better because only together we will be able to achieve the overall defeat of any of our issues as a school. A proud example is the struggle in which we had to fight for the Advanced placement classes teachers wanted so that we can challenge the skills we already have. We can go forward with these strategies to work together but also lead a group of people to the best for all those around us and make sure that we make a difference as a whole group wanting to change the world in small ways. Through any type of struggle many famous activists have used the structure of how to make a secure statement and get the point out there to make a difference. Many famous activists like Martin Luther King with the civil rights for African Americans, Cesar Chavez with the workers rights movement in the West Coast, but also our own Hunger Strikers for proper education in low income communities.
My vision for contributing to the struggle within Social Justice is to inform those who do not know what is being done to make it more better with every who understands the struggle. With everyone contributing to this cause we can see and overall view of how people who have a better and closer understanding and will help with the movement of social justice.
My topic connects to the struggle of social justice because we need to know what exactly is harming and wrong in the place we live. We must fight for that right and overall knowledge to make it a better place. I think my topic can also show the over- consumption and consumerism is one the main faults we have and by discussing this we will see that we can help with the clear knowledge to see such with this issue.
